“Chibi Maruko-chan” creator Sakura Momoko has passed away

Sakura Momoko (53), creator of longtime manga/anime series “Chibi Maruko-chan” died of breast cancer on August 15th.

The funeral was held with family members and close friends and Sakura Production has posted the following message with artwork by Sakura Momoko.

The message reads:

Ms. Momoko Sakura has died of breast cancer at 8:29 pm on August 15, 2018. (53-years-old)

We would like to express our deepest appreciation to all of the fans who have supported her so much, thank you for all the stakeholders who took care of us, and we would like to express our sincere gratitude to you here.

Sakura debuted as a cartoonist in 1984. When celebrating our 30th anniversary, she had the following words.

“There were lots of good things and serious things for the past 30 years, but I am sending a very happy message as a writer, I can not thank you enough.” (An excerpt from the “Sakura Momoko’s World Exhibition” “Debut to the 30th anniversary”)

She always appreciated being able to draw and enjoy doing it.

It is our wishes and pleasure that everyone will continue to enjoy Sakura Momoko’s work in the future.

In addition, the  funeral ceremony was held only by relatives and close relatives.
