Kimura Hana’s shocking death, which was believed to be from suicide due to cyberbullying, has led to an increase in consultations with lawyers in Japan.
The number of consultations are not just by people who have been slandered online but also from many who are worried if their comments will land them in hot water.
Questions from “Can this comment be considered defamation?”, “Is it possible for me to be identified from the comments I write?”.
A person wrote on a community bulletin board that he slandered his acquaintances. The unidentified person wrote, “I’m sorry but I can’t financially afford legal consultation, but I’m having a lot of anxiety and I’m wondering if I can be identified from online posts I made”.
