Comic Market issues second report regarding staff and participants who tested positive for the novel coronavirus

The Comic Market Preparatory Meeting Staff originally announced on January 6th that two staff members were confirmed testing positive for the novel coronavirus.  Now it appears that a few staff had violated rules and a few participants have tested positive.

On January 14th, the second report was issued:

Regarding the results of the behavioral survey of the two positive subjects, due to the nature of their work, neither were in contact with the same participant for 15 minutes or more, or contact with a participant in a narrow place or in a poorly ventilated place.

In addition, each wore a mask during all meetings within the department and did not speak loudly. In addition, they were at a safe distance during meals and breaks, nor were they in contact with anyone more than 15 minutes during breaks. There was no preparatory meeting staff. Therefore, we recognize that there have been no close contacts inside the preparatory committee staff or during staff work, except for one person who has made close contact outside of the previously reported work, and the same judgment has been made at the health center. As a result of the test, one of the above-mentioned close contacts was confirmed to be negative.

As a result of hearings with the above three preparatory meeting staff, a total of six people, including the three preparatory meeting staff and three friends who were not preparatory meeting staff, ate and drank on the night of December 29, and also on the night of the same month on the 31st. It became clear that a total of 11 people, including 3 preparatory meeting staff and 8 friends who were not preparatory meeting staff (2 out of 8 were eating and drinking on the 29th), had a year-end gathering (including eating, drinking and lodging). Of these, 4 of the 8 friends who were not staff members of the preparatory meeting who participated in the night gathering on the 31st (3 of them were participants on the 2nd day) were found to be positive (only the remaining 4 and the 29th dinner were attended). One of them has been confirmed to be negative). The dates of positive results for these positive persons are as shown in Nos. 1 to 6 in the attached table.

Based on the above survey results, at the moment, the above 6 people (2 preparatory meeting staff and 4 friends who were not preparatory meeting staff who participated in the night gathering on the 31st) were outside the venue in connection with C99 participation. In addition, we believe that there is a high possibility of infection due to behavior outside the session.

At the time of holding C99, we asked for social gatherings on the day and before and after the holding, refraining from dinner, etc., but we are seriously accepting that there were multiple people who violated this request from the staff of the preparatory meeting. There is no excuse. We sincerely apologize to all the participants and will work to prevent recurrence in the future as a preparatory meeting.

In response to the request in the first report on January 6th last time , “If you find out that you are suspected of having a new coronavirus infection during the C99 period, please let us know.” We have received positive reports from two participants. However, judging from the information received, all of them were cases where the possibility of infection after the session was high. We would like to express our deepest sympathies and pray for the earliest possible recovery. Other than the above, we have not received any reports on infected persons, including not only the preparatory meeting staff but also circle participants and general participants. The preparatory meeting will continue to cooperate and cooperate with the relevant authorities to continue holding the Comic Market as a place for open expression, and will endeavor to respond in a timely and appropriate manner to the situation.
