AKB48 announced on Oct. 9 at MX Festival! that they will be accepting applications for those who want to audition to become an 18th generation member of the idol group. Applications will end at 11:59 p.m. on November 19th.
Rules are that they must be a female living in Japan and are not affiliated with a production company and are a 6th grade elementary school student up to 20 years old.
Online judging will be conducted in Fukuoka, Osaka, Sapporo and Tokyo. The final candidates will face final judging on January 28, 2023.
AKB48 General Manager Mukaichi Mion said, “The reason we can recruit 18th gen so quickly is because 17th gen has grown so much in the last five months. Thanks to 17th gen. Thank you”.
